AZAR in Abodom, Ghana

In June 23, AZAR welcomed some new friends - Isaac Osei-Kwame (as a new trustee) and his wife Cynthia (as a committee member) onto the team. With their Ghanaian background, they are able to add a hugely valuable perspective to our current work in Tanzania, but are also assisting in facilitating our new projects in three schools in the town of Abodom (near Kumasi) that AZAR has identified as suitable for type of support we provide.  Our combined experience is helping us to work in another country. These are exciting times!

Since joining us they have helped set up a local Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) 'AZAR Ghana' as well as a Community/Schools Committee to work together to hire local designers, builders and contractors and to ensure work is done in a timely manner and to a satisfactory standard.

After establishing a number of priorities for the Abodom Schools a simple and relatively low-cost item was the provision of wi-fi in the secondary school. AZAR provided the funds for the installation and the whole process ran very smoothly and took just two weeks from approval to complete. Here in this video the Headteacher of Abodom JHS thanks AZAR for the work done.

Following this the actual number one priority was to provide fresh, clean drinking water at each of the three schools. This involved drilling a borehole at each school, erecting an concrete elevated platform to hold a 5,000 litre water tank, connecting both with a suitable pump and also installation of water stands in the school ground. Each with four taps. We're delighted to confirm work progressed smoothly that all installations were completed by 1st October 2024.
